I’m having some separation anxiety from Florence, but I’m
excited to continue my adventures! On our way back to Genova on Monday, we
stopped in Pisa to see the tower! The ride there was definitely an adventure,
too. We saw on the map that the other
station in Pisa was closer to the tower so we (illegally) stayed on the train
to get off at the closer stop. Little
did we know, that station is very small and not the right one. It took us about an hour to get back to the
station we should have gotten off at in the first place! There, we were able to
check our bags into storage and make the walk to the tower!
The tower of Pisa was
really leanin’! It surprised me by how much it actually does lean! Pictures
definitely can’t capture the true wonder that it is! When most people visit the
tower, they prop it up! Obviously, I had to be different!
Something a lot of people don’t realize is that there is a
BEAUTIFUL cathedral right by the tower.
For just 2 euro we toured the cathedral! It had a gorgeous gold leaf
ceiling and some crazy items on display.
One was a tomb with the body (in bronze) visible from the outside
(pictured below). It was honestly hard
to look at!
Today, we started our class back! I could really get used to
a class where we take a break to go get gelato! We discovered a new gelato
place that was absolutely delicious! After class we wanted to go on boat tour
of the port, but it was closed. Instead, we went to our favorite restaurant
(the one with the French/Italian guy) and took a few more of our classmates.
While there, we made friends with a British and an Australian guy who work on
one of the yachts that parks in Genoa! They were so sweet and funny and loved
having the attention of 8 girls! They couldn’t tell us who the owner of their
boat is, but they said it is someone famous that we would definitely know with
daughters’ ages 19 and 21. We have been researching like crazy, but to no
avail! Oh well, maybe we’ll see them again and try some more! Clearly, we had some fun!
This week is full of class and then it’s off to Rome for the
weekend! Not much will happen this week, so the posts might slow down! I learned
a saying today and it absolutely applies, “Americans live to work, and everyone
else works to live.” Italians definitely work to live, and it is a great
lifestyle that they have!
